Train of Thought - What Does This Idiomatic Expression Mean?

The idiomatic expression Train of Thought refers to the relationship between two or more sequence of ideas that is presented during a discussion (thought).

For example, if you were trying to explain something to someone, and you give and illustration. Then the person you are explaining to ask you: "so what is the train of thought?" What the person is asking you is that, you should make it clear how the illustration relate to the thing you were trying to explain.

Thus, we can also say that Train of Thought refers to a phrase that shows how two or more ideas you present relate (interconnect) to each other.
