Is There A Difference Between Online and Cloud Database

The answer is YES. So what is the difference you may wonder.
Let me start by explaining the later type of database which is cloud database.

Cloud Database is a kind of database that is run and accessed via the internet. This means that both an end-user and an administrator needs to be connected to the internet before it can feed the database with information or retrieve a stored information from it. In most cases, you will have to use a web browser to access it.

Online Database on the other hand refers to a database that is run and accessed via a network. This means that you do not necessarily needs to be connected to the internet in order to access this kind of a database, all you need is to be connected to the network the database is hosted on.

Think of it this way. A school runs an e-library; this e-library can be accessed by any student that is signed into the school's network even if the student does not have an internet connection. In this case, the database of the school's e-library is online, but it is not cloud based.
It is if the e-library is only accessible by student with an internet connection that the database of the e-library is considered as a cloud database.
