How To Use The "Custom sort" Of The Sort Option | Microsoft Excel 2016

You might have not noticed it, or perhaps, you have noticed that one of the option in the Sort & Filter command is, Custom sort...  as shown in the image below.

This option is available so that if you do not want to used the normal ascending and descend sort option you can specify which type you want.
For example, you started a business on Wednesday, and thus you want the working week of the business to run from Wednesday to Tuesday and not the normal Monday through Sunday.
In this regard, this feature of Excel 2016 is what you need so as to sort your data in the workbook accordingly.

How To Create & Use Custom Sort
  1. To create it, you need to use the Sort dialog box of MS Excel 2016, and to open it, you click the Sort & Filter command icon in the Editing group of the Home tab, as shown in the image above.

  2. When the Sort dialog box opens, click on the Order option combo box and select Custom List... in the menu.

  3. Now in the Custom List... dialog box that will appear, select the NEW LIST option from the Custom list section, then enter the order in which you want the list to be sorted in the List entries section.
In our example, we are using Wednesday through Tuesday. Note, when separating the sort order, you do not need to use comma, and you should not put it in the same line, rather you should separate it by putting it on separate lines.
When you are done, click the Add button and the OK button, to save the new sort order and exit from the Custom Lists dialog box respectively.
  4. Finally, click the OK button in the Sort dialog box to the selected column or row in your worksheet.
