Google's Advice To Owners/Developers Of Forums With Regard To Nofollow Tag Utilization

When creating or asking someone to design a forum for you, Google do not think that it is wise for you to ask the person to include the  rel="nofollow" on the link(s) to any of the forum's topic comment page, the reason? "because lots of interesting discussion can happen there." then they add "We encourage you to use the rel="nofollow" attribute anywhere that users can add links by themselves, including within comments, trackbacks, and referrer lists."

Why this advice? Google continues
"If you're a blogger (or a blog reader), you're painfully familiar with people who try to raise their own websites' search engine rankings by submitting linked blog comments like "Visit my discount pharmaceuticals site." This is called comment spam, we don't like it either."

Though the use the word blogger, but this also applies to Forums owners. And the fact still remains, Google wants to keep comment spammers at bay. And refusing to design your forum's comment in such a way that it will automatically add Nofollow tag to url posted by users will also harm your own search ranking.

So we strongly recommend that you take the advice of Google with regard to utilizing the nofollow tag on users generated links in your forum topic comment page.
