Selected Text No Longer Overwrite When Typing In Microsoft Word 2016

By default setting of the MS Word 2016 program, once you select a text and then start to type, the new text you are typing will overwrite on the selected text, that is, the selected text will be automatically deleted while the new text will take it place.

But if for any reason you notice that this is not the case, instead, the new type text will be inserted either before or after the selected text, then it is because the Typing replaces selected text option of the the Word 2016 program you are using have been dechecked or deactivated.
To fix it, do the following:

  1. Open the Word Options box of the MS Word 2016 program.
    You do this by clicking on the File tab in the menu bar, and then Options in the left section of the backstage view that will be displayed.
    The shortcut key is Alt+F+T.
     
  2. When the Word Options box display, select Advanced in the left section of the box, then tick the Typing replaces selected text check-box.
     
  3. Finaly, click the OK button at the buttom of the box.
And you are good.
