Linking In LibreOffice Writer 5.2

Linking is the act of connecting a text or image in your document to an external or internal content, and this is done using the hyperlink feature of the LibreOffice Writer program.


With this Hyperlink feature of Writer 5.2, you can link a text or image to a:
  • Website: so that when a read click on the hyperlinked text or image the website will open, possibly in the default browser of the user computer.
  • Mail & News: use this option if you want the user clicking on the hyperlinked text or image to send a mail. With this option you can pre-set the recipient and subject of the mail.
  • Document: with this option of the hyperlink feature of LibreOffice Writer 5.2, you can create a link to another existing document, or to another section of the current document.
  • New Document: use this option if you want the user clicking of the link to be prompted to create a new blank document. With this option, you can pre-set the type of document you want the user to create and also the filename of the document.
Using the Hyperlink feature of LibreOffice Writer 5.2
  1. Simply select the text or image you want to hyperlink
     
  2. Click on Insert in the menu bar, and in the resulting drop-down menu, click Hyperlink. You can also use the keyboard shortcut which is Ctrl+K.
     
  3. After the Hyperlink dialog box opens, select the appropriate hyperlink option you want to create at the left section of the dialog box and then insert the necessary details of the hyperlink in the right section.
     
  4. When done, just click the OK button to apply the hyperlink and exit the dialog box.
