Activating Email Filter | Gmail

Email filter from Gmail is a service that you can use to automatically sort new incoming mails to your email box. For example, you can specify that all mails from a particular sender should:
  • Be forward to another email address
  • Be mark as important
  • Be moved to a particular folder and not left in your inbox.
and much more.

There are basically three ways to create a filter in Gmail, these are:
  1. Using the search box.
  2. From within a mail.
  3. From Gmail settings.
Let us start off with how to create a mailing filter in Gmail using the search box.

Using The Search box.
  1.  Click on the Drop-down arrow at the right-end of the search box, to display the filter dialog box.

  2. When the Filter box display, fill in the appropriate field so that Gmail will know which new incoming email you want the filter to apply to.
    1. From: specify the email address of the incoming email sender.
    2. To: specify which email recipient the sender is sending to.
For example, if you want the filter to apply only to email send to you and another person, and not all the mail from the sender.
    3. Subject: Used to that the filter should apply only to mail with a specify subject and not the entire mail from the sender.
    4. Has the words: used to specify that a mail with this content you want the filter to apply to and not all mail from the sender.
    5. Doesn't have: used to specify that a mail with out this content is the one you want the filter to apply to and not all mail from a sender.
    6. Has Attachment: Used to specify if the filter should apply to mail with attachment.
    7. Don't include chats: used to specify if the filter should apply to mail with chats or not.
    8. Size: used to specify if the filter should apply to mails with a specific size.
    9. Date within: used to specify when the filter should take effect.

It is not necessary to fill in all this data, it is only necessary if you want to be more specific about which mail in particular the filter should apply to. Any of the field can be used to specify which mail the filter should apply to, all field are not dependent on each other.

Then click the Create filter button.
From Withing a Mail
