Sign-in To A Locked Windows 10 Device/PC Without Password | Windows Hello


Sign-in to a locked Windows 10 Device/PC without password, does this to you, sound too good to be true? Well, we will say that, it depends on what you use to lock the Windows 10 enabled device or computer.




In Windows 10 OS, there is an integrated security utility called Windows Hello. This security utility will enable you to lock your Windows 10 device or computer with either your thumbprint or your face and not with a password. So with the security utility, you need not strain your brain into remember you hard to remember password. But the fact is, not all device camera can be used to activate or sign-in with this Windows Hello security utility.


In order to prevent unauthorized access to your computer by someone who has your picture, Microsoft develop Windows Hello to work only with an Infrared Camera (also referred to as IR, Depth or Iris camera). This type of camera has the ability to look into the iris of a person's eyes so as to use it to determine the identity of the person. So if someone carries your picture and tries to use it to sign-in to your Windows 10 device which you have locked with Windows Hello, then that person will be wasting it's time, because the camera will be able to detect that what it is seeing is not a human being's face, but that of an object.

But if your Windows 10 devices does not come with an IR camera and you do not have the money to but it, you can also use thumbprint scanner which is more cheaper with Windows Hello. So any of these hardware you use with Windows Hello, the fact is, you can sign-in to a locked Windows 10 device or PC without using password all thanks to Windows Hello.

If you have either or both the IR camera and thumbprint scanner, and you wish to activate the Windows Hello security feature in your Windows 10 enabled device, then follow the steps below:
  1. Open the Settings app of Windows 10.
  2. Click on Accounts in the Setting main menu.
  3. Select Sign-in options in the left section of the Accounts screen.
  4. And in the right section, follow the on-screen instruction under Windows Hello section, to activate it.
Note: you need to have attached the IR camera or thumbprint scanner before you follow the process above, so that the Activation button for Windows Hello will show, else you will receive these message "Windows Hello isn't available on this device".
