But please note that formatting your computer hard drive/disk is not the resetting a mobile device. When you reset your mobile phone, everything in the phone's memory that you have save will be erased but the mobile phone's default applications and file which came along with the mobile phone from the manufacturer will not be removed. But in the case of formatting a computer Hard Drive, there is nothing that will be left, all your programs, files and even your operating systems (Windows 10) will all be erased.

Having said that, this is the guide on how to format your PC hard drive which is already running on Windows 10. First we are going to start by explaining

How to Format a Partition in Your PC's Hard Drive Which do Not Have The Operating System (Windows 10) Installed On It.
To format a partition in your PC's hard disk which is not the partition that have Windows installed in it, do the following.

  1. Open the Windows 10 File Explorer.

  2. From the left section of the File Explorer, click on This PC.

  3. In the Devices and drives section of the This PC screen in the Windows 10 File Explorer, select the Drive Partition you want to format. Once done, an addition Drive Tools tab section will appear in the Tab section of the File Explorer window.

  4. Click on the Manage tab in the Drive Tool tab section and then click on Format in the ribbon of the Manage Tab the will display.

  5. In the Format dialog box that will pop-up, click the Start button to begin the formatting of the partitioned disk.

  6. Because Windows have you in mind and will like you to understand what the step you are about to take mean, when you click the Start button, a confirmation/warning dialog box will pop-up telling you that "Formatting will erase ALL data on this disk." since you know that fact already, just click OK and the disk will be deleted.

  7. After successful format, the see a box similar to the one below. Just click OK and that is all.

How to Format (a Partition in) Your PC's Hard Drive Which Have The Operating System (Windows 10) Installed On It.
One thing you should have in mind is this. You cannot format the C: drive (i.e. the drive which the OS -Windows 10 -is installed in) from while the OS -Windows 10- is running. In other words, you cannot format the drive/partition which have Windows 10 installed in it from within Windows. But that does not mean that you will be needing a third-party utility if you still which to format the C: drive.
What you will need is just the Windows installation Disk or USB or the Installation Disk or USB of another Operating System (OS). If you do not have the installation Disk or USB of Windows 10, do not worry, we will teach you that later. But now, let us suppose that you have the Installation Disk or USB of Windows 10 and you want to format the C: drive of your PC, then do the following.

  1. Boot your PC from the Windows 10 Installation Disk or USB you have attached/inserted to your computer.
To boot your Windows 10 PC from an Installation Disk or USB,
    • Restart your computer.
    • On the initial boot screen before the Starting Windows screen displays, press the F12 key in your keyboard to display the Choose Boot Device Screen.
    • When the Choose Boot Device screen displays, highlight CD or USB drive option in the list and press the Enter button.

  2. Once done, the Windows Setup window will appear after some moment. If you wish to reinstall Windows 10 from the installation disk after you have format the C: drive, then select the appropriate Language, Time and Currency format, and  Keyboard or input method in the first Setup screen. But if you just wish to use it to format your computer's C: drive then ignore and click on the Next button

  3. Then click on the Install now button in the next screen of the Windows Setup and not Repair your computer.

  4. In the Activate Windows screen of the Windows Setup, enter your Windows 10 product Key but if you do not have, then click I don't have a product key and then click the Next button.

  5. The next step is for you to select an appropriate Windows 10 version if you want to reinstall Windows after you have formatted the C: Drive, but if you do not have any of such intention, then choose any version and click the Next button.

  6. Check the I accept the license terms check box in the Application notices and license terms screen and click the Next button.

  7. Now the important step. In the Which type of installation do you want? screen of the Windows setup select any option if you want to reinstall Windows 10 after the C: drive is formatted, but if you are just using the Windows 10 installation disk or USB as a mean to format your C: drive, then choose the Custom: Install Windows only (advanced) option.

  8. Once you have done that, Windows Setup will ask you Where do you want to install Windows? But since we are not reinstalling Windows, all you need do at this point is to select the C: drive click on Format. If you have more than one partition in your PC's hard disk, the C: drive is always Drive 0 Partition 2. That is all you need to do if you just want to format your PC hard drive, but if you still want to reinstall Windows 10, then after the format is completed, select the Drive you just format and then click the Next button. Then the Windows 10 Setup will start and you do not have to do anything again.

We will appreciate your feedback.
